Adobe Custom Tags & Templates

2 min read

Our state-of-the-art automated tool allows unparalleled flexibility when adopting your custom tags to your needs. Here is a use case that will help you understand how easy it is to set up your Adobe plan with us with minimal down time and next-to-zero complexity:

  1. Choose an Adobe Enterprise plan – it is very important, because it makes sure you are seeing our Adobe URL builder only!
  2. Once you get into the Adobe plan, this is what you need to do:
    • Go to URL Prefixes to set up your preferred tracking prefixes, i.e. extid=, cid=, etc.
    • Then head over to Tag Formatting Rules, where you will standardize your tags and how your link architecture will look like (separators, font cases, required tags, etc.)
      • NOTE: If you are using Adobe Analytics but still need to use utm_source, utm_medium and other tags, choose the “&” separator.
    • Next, if you have any special requirements for your URLs – please define them in the Link URL Governance page.
      • Examples rules: all links should end in “.html”
      • No “abc.com” domain allowed, etc.
  3. Now you are ready to add your metadata (aka your custom tags) and build your templates.
    • A quick detour to Custom Tags allows you to add the metadata that you need for your tracking links, depending on your campaign and tracking taxonomy.
      • Easily choose between alphanumeric, numeric, hidden-value, multi-value, prefix and complex value tags and import your tag values in a manner of seconds.
      • Once your tags and values are in place, time for your templates.
  1. We offer unlimited flexibility for your taxonomy and tag combinations, for example:
    • Connect any two, three or more tags and define whether to custom-connect them with no connectors, dashes, or underscores.
    • Connect a specific tag value of a tag with another tag – use cases: if media type is display> open up display partners tag, etc.
    • Have a “free type” option where users can type whatever they want in a tag.
  1. Time to create your reusable tag combinations, aka templates – create all of them in 5 minutes or less:
    • Head over to your template area and quickly drag and drop your required tags that should be included in a specific URL type.
  • Templates will make sure your users never have to stop to think which tags had to be included, how to order them, how to combine them, what is required and what is not, what is the governance, etc.
  • They make sure all your links are standardized so your reporting does not look like a big pile of mess when all is said and done.
  • A major reason why reporting – after you have spent tons of money on paid media or email – looks so messy is because you have governance rules, but it is super hard to enforce them and ensure users keep them.
  • Templates solve for all of that! They make it easy for your team to be efficient – using the template as a placeholder for all required metadata – like a beacon that easily guides them to ensure they follow standard procedure. With our templates:
    • Metadata tags will appear in the link in the order they were added
    • You can quickly swap tag places in the template only
    • Tags will appear standardized – both separators and font case will always be consistent
    • You can use “{{DynamicTag}} values, {{start_date}}, {{End_date}}, {{empty}}, and more system tags that gives you complete flexibility to do anything in seconds.
  • Finished your first template? You are now ready to invite your team members and they can start tagging their links in no time!
