Start with Single Link Campaign

Why Single Link vs Multiple Link?

Start with our Single Link Campaign if you want us to guide you step-by-step in creating your first campaign.

The difference between Single vs Multiple link is that:

 – With Single Link Campaign, you can combine all tags with each other – you can add multiple values of each in one go. What does this mean for you?

    •  If you select one source, one utm_medium, one utm_term and 5 utm_content tags, ultimately you will have 5 links in total – one for each different utm_content value.
    • If you select 2 sources/medium, one utm_term and 5 utm_content tags, ultimately you will end up with 10 links in total – one for each different source/medicum combo multiple by the different utm_content combos.
    • This option is NOT recommended for email campaigns, as you will need to do a lot of cleanup if you end up with many tagged links. It will be tedious and error prone.

 – With Multiple Link Campaign, you only have 1 utm_content value per initial basic link. If you want to add more utm_content values, you need to add more initial links:

    • Because you can upload hundreds of links in one go, we ONLY allow you to select one utm_content tag per link. Imagine what would happen if you can add multiple tags for everything – you will end up with a huge amount of links that will be very tough to manage should you need to remove those you don’t need.
    • Workaround: If you prefer to use the Multiple link dashboard when trying to add multiple utm_channel, Utm_medium, and utm_content values to combine with each other, you will need to duplicate your initial basic link.

For example, if you are promoting www.yourdomain.com/landing-page; www.yourdomain.com/blog; and www.yourdomain/event-registration-page, each of these pages will only have one content type as follows:

  • www.yourdomain.com/landing-page – utm_content=”landing-page”
  • www.yourdomain.com/blog – utm_content=”blog”
  • www.yourdomain/event-registration-page – utm_content=”event-registration-page”

If you need to use the same link: www.yourdomain.com/landing-page for different campaign types –  on your button, hero image, and email footer, etc., then you can start your multiple link campaign by adding  “www.yourdomain.com/landing-page” 3 times and in the end you will have these 3 links each have a unique utm_content value.

  • utm_content=”button”;
  • utm_content=”hero-image”, and
  • utm_content=”text-link-footer”.

Multiple link Campaigns are for large multi-link bulk campaigns where you have multiple links and each link defines exactly one content type.

We offer several flexible ways for you to enter the links you want to tag:

  • Manual link entry – by navigating to Campaigns, clicking the Green “Add Campaign” button and manually entering your link, campaign name, and selecting your tags.
  • Automated “link grab” from live websites – by using our Chrome extension, which lets you parse links and webpage URLs without the need to copy or paste anything
  • Bulk upload from a .CSV file – by using our bulk-upload feature, letting you automatically add a large number of links to avoid manual typing, copying or pasting
  • Bulk-paste into the Campaign Links dashboard – just copy and paste your links

The above image shows you how you can use the “Enter Links” field to paste multiple links or click on the green “Upload links” text to bulk-upload your URLs.

1. Let’s go to Campaigns and manually enter a link to tag:

  •  Select “Campaigns” from the menu and click the “Add Campaign” button to start entering your campaign name and links.
  • If you select a tagging template, your links will be processed even faster. If you prefer to pick the channel, content, and term tags manually, use the right-hand side of our Campaign generation dashboard.

2. The right portion of our friendly wizard has drop-down sections that you can use to edit your information manually if you choose not to use tagging templates.

  • We do recommend that you spend time creating Tagging templates for your most frequently used scenarios to save time. The tagging templates can be configured in Settings.
  • If you have already set up your Bitly connection in Settings, your links will be shortened automatically.

3. Once you have selected/added all the tracking info you need, hit Preview & Save to review your links and hit save if you are happy, or delete/edit your work.

  • We currently give you the option to pre-test your link to make sure your URL is active and working.

4. Your links should be processed within seconds – the more links you have, the longer it will take, but the tool should respond within 10-20 seconds.

  • If it takes longer, please let us know.
  • Once the links are ready, you can either share them manually (copy/paste) or auto-share via our social icons.
